Soon-To-Be-Uncle-David

I thought of another reason why I'm glad to be getting married here in about 2 weeks. Once we've said our vows, I will be able to completely eliminate the phrase "soon-to-be" from my vocabulary. It can be very annoying (for both the speaker and listener) to have to repeatedly use this phrase over and over in conversation.

For example:
I had a great dinner tonight with my soon-to-be-bride and my soon-to-be-in-laws at Texas Roadhouse. I enjoyed video games and practicing subtraction with my wonderful soon-to-be-niece Maddi. I was stabbed with forks and got to listen to my Batman-like soon-to-be-nephew Jack count to 100 while waiting for his chicken strips to cool. Unfortanately, the chicken was "too spicey" and is soon-to-be at the bottom of a dumpster.

Just 2 more weeks.

What its all about...

When I saddled up to my desk at work this morning, I found this email front and center in my inbox:

Hi sweetie...
Just a note to thank you for taking me to school, fixing my computer, doing the programs, and the millions of other things that you are doing.

The short simple note is what its all about for me. It means the world to a man when a woman acknowledges the ways he's loving her through acts of service. While service doesn't come naturally for me, her words of affirmation inspire me to serve her even more.

Learning about love,

A Wife as an Alarm Clock?

There are many good reasons to anticipate marriage. One of the less important ones is that you have someone there every day to help make sure you're up in time for that day's activities. I made the classic "set your alarm for pm instead of am" mistake this morning and nearly ruined church for hundreds of children in the Dallas area.

The chances of that happening to me now are currently only about 3% because I am a generally responsible person. Once I marry Alli (in only 20 days), I anticipate that the chances will fall down to 2% or maybe even 1%.

Of course these statistics are fake. (I know a guy that always seems to be making up fake statistics and I always get a good kick out of it.) The point is that Alli will probably notice if I accidentally sleep too late and when that 1% chance comes along, she will at least make me some Pop-Tarts or something to cheer me up (I just hope they'll be cinnamon & brown sugar).

Countin' the days,
David

Marital Advice We've Received: "Discuss your views on pets before wedlock."

We've decided not to have any pets as we begin our new life together. Alli & I are especially opposed to cats. A website called stuffonmycat.com confirms our suspicions that pet owning makes you go insane.

I know, I know...

Okay, so we're not "the Penuels" yet, but can you blame me for being eager. I mean, look at that girl, who wouldn't want to stake a claim on her as quick as possible. We've got 21 days, 23 hours, and 20 minutes remaining until our big day and we've got plenty to do between now and then...

Replace carpet in 4 rooms
Replace hall bathroom countertop
Repaint hall bathroom
Repaint guest bedroom
Purchase King Size Bed
Deliver & Repaint Lam Family Hutch
Purchase wedding party gifts
Prepare & print wedding programs
Finish our 6th week of pre-marital counseling
Complete the Prepare-Enrich Questionnaire
Have Alli's practice hair appointment
Take Bridal portraits

Okay, my brain is starting to hurt so I'm going to stop.

Today is carpet day and then we're just going to enjoy a nice dinner together before Alli takes off to Wichita Falls for practice hair & Bridal pics while I stay here in Dallas for a Senior High Event tonight and a birthday celebration at the Lake for one of my small group guys.

I'll miss her till Sunday.
