Summer Fun

The Penuels are having a very busy summer...weddings, showers, vacations, camps, retreats...and more! Click HERE to share in the adventures of David & Alli.
Deibert Wedding

In early July, we traveled north to Tulsa, Oklahoma to participate in our good friend Andrew Deibert's wedding. We really had to brush up on our Portugese because he married Tatiane Silva from Sao Paulo, Brazil and most of her family didn't speak English. It was an awesome ceremony in an outdoor rose garden and an even better reception at a Brazilian restuarant where we were constantly fed various meats served to us directly off of sabers. Spring Break in NYC

Over spring break, we made our way up north to see the sites in the Big Apple. After a few days there and some quality hangtime with Dieon Sanders, Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, Al Roker, Natalie Portman, and Hulk Hogan (all spotted by the Penuels), we jaunted over to Indianapolis to spend a few days with the Zafars.

Ski Trip & New Years Eve!

The Penuel's had a blast on Watermark's Senior High Ski Trip. Check out the fun pics by clicking HERE. (We also included a few bonus pics from New Years Eve)
Christmas at the Lam's

We spent our first Christmas as a married couple at the Lam's house in Wichita Falls. Click HERE to check out the exciting pics after our visit from Santa Claus!
New Downloads!

Okay...2 months have gone by and it's time to get this thing up and running again. I'm going to figure out how to get pics off Alli's camera and then this will become an incredible cornucopia of updates and images.
For now, you're going to have to settle for the sounds that have been filling our house this week. I got several iTunes gift cards for Christmas and spent them all right away on the following:
Derek Webb "Mockingbird"
Ginny Owens "Long Way Home"
Mae "The Everglow"
Chris Tomlin "Live from Austin Music Hall"
(Not Pictured) Joss Stone "The Soul Sessions"
Be on the lookout for my new iMix "Penuel's Picks 4" in iTunes! I'm narrowing down the selections and will have it posted soon.

Soon-To-Be-Uncle-David

I thought of another reason why I'm glad to be getting married here in about 2 weeks. Once we've said our vows, I will be able to completely eliminate the phrase "soon-to-be" from my vocabulary. It can be very annoying (for both the speaker and listener) to have to repeatedly use this phrase over and over in conversation.
For example:
I had a great dinner tonight with my soon-to-be-bride and my soon-to-be-in-laws at Texas Roadhouse. I enjoyed video games and practicing subtraction with my wonderful soon-to-be-niece Maddi. I was stabbed with forks and got to listen to my Batman-like soon-to-be-nephew Jack count to 100 while waiting for his chicken strips to cool. Unfortanately, the chicken was "too spicey" and is soon-to-be at the bottom of a dumpster.
Just 2 more weeks.

What its all about...
When I saddled up to my desk at work this morning, I found this email front and center in my inbox:
Hi sweetie...
Just a note to thank you for taking me to school, fixing my computer, doing the programs, and the millions of other things that you are doing.
The short simple note is what its all about for me. It means the world to a man when a woman acknowledges the ways he's loving her through acts of service. While service doesn't come naturally for me, her words of affirmation inspire me to serve her even more.
Learning about love,
David

A Wife as an Alarm Clock?
There are many good reasons to anticipate marriage. One of the less important ones is that you have someone there every day to help make sure you're up in time for that day's activities. I made the classic "set your alarm for pm instead of am" mistake this morning and nearly ruined church for hundreds of children in the Dallas area.
The chances of that happening to me now are currently only about 3% because I am a generally responsible person. Once I marry Alli (in only 20 days), I anticipate that the chances will fall down to 2% or maybe even 1%.
Of course these statistics are fake. (I know a guy that always seems to be making up fake statistics and I always get a good kick out of it.) The point is that Alli will probably notice if I accidentally sleep too late and when that 1% chance comes along, she will at least make me some Pop-Tarts or something to cheer me up (I just hope they'll be cinnamon & brown sugar).
Countin' the days,
David

Marital Advice We've Received: "Discuss your views on pets before wedlock."
We've decided not to have any pets as we begin our new life together. Alli & I are especially opposed to cats. A website called stuffonmycat.com confirms our suspicions that pet owning makes you go insane.
I know, I know...
Okay, so we're not "the Penuels" yet, but can you blame me for being eager. I mean, look at that girl, who wouldn't want to stake a claim on her as quick as possible. We've got 21 days, 23 hours, and 20 minutes remaining until our big day and we've got plenty to do between now and then...
Replace carpet in 4 rooms
Replace hall bathroom countertop
Repaint hall bathroom
Repaint guest bedroom
Purchase King Size Bed
Deliver & Repaint Lam Family Hutch
Purchase wedding party gifts
Prepare & print wedding programs
Finish our 6th week of pre-marital counseling
Complete the Prepare-Enrich Questionnaire
Have Alli's practice hair appointment
Take Bridal portraits
Okay, my brain is starting to hurt so I'm going to stop.
Today is carpet day and then we're just going to enjoy a nice dinner together before Alli takes off to Wichita Falls for practice hair & Bridal pics while I stay here in Dallas for a Senior High Event tonight and a birthday celebration at the Lake for one of my small group guys.
I'll miss her till Sunday.

Blogging Lives
When school starts...blogging will resume.
For now, this picture of Keith & Stacey after winning the Watermark Men's Golf Tournament will have to do. Nice green blazers boys.
